Volunteer Programs Manager (Philanthropy)- Location Flexible

Position Summary:
The Volunteer Programs Manager will develop and implement a comprehensive volunteer engagement strategy for The Trust for Public Land’s Philanthropy Department. They will collaborate with Philanthropy staff to identify volunteers and volunteer opportunities, and create and execute an engagement program designed to provide meaningful and rewarding opportunities for volunteers that will deepen volunteers’ commitment to The Trust for Public Land, and advance the organization’s mission. The Volunteer Programs Manager will partner with colleagues throughout the organization to build a volunteer pipeline, develop training resources, and create meaningful recognition, such as: collaborating with the Associate Vice President of Corporate and Foundation Relations and the Director for Field and Brand Marketing to craft volunteer opportunities that align with corporate funders’ goals, and coordinating with the Associate Director of Events to shape volunteer engagement experiences at events.
The Volunteer Programs Manager will support State Directors and Directors of Philanthropy with engaging and managing State Advisory Boards. The position will staff the Volunteer Leadership Committee of The Trust for Public Land’s National Board, and the State Advisory Board Chairs meetings and quarterly volunteer webinars. They will also serve as the Philanthropy liaison with the Director of Board Strategy and Operations and be the point-of-contact for the National Leadership Conference.
 Key Functions:
50%     Volunteer Opportunities and Experiences: Develop a path for volunteers to enhance their relationship with The Trust for Public Land, deepening their knowledge of and commitment to the organization’s mission and work. Develop new, and support and enhance existing volunteer opportunities, such as ad hoc committees, corporate employee engagement, and councils/committees for emerging volunteer leaders. Ensure volunteers have appropriate training and recognition for their service. Assist the Vice President of Philanthropy with building and developing a pipeline of volunteers for the National Board.
30%     Advisory Board Support: Research industry standards and best practices for Advisory Boards and Emerging Volunteer Leaders Councils; design and facilitate the sharing of best practices, processes, and policies across the organization. Develop and track State Advisory Board and other volunteer councils’ performance measurements. In partnership with Philanthropy colleagues, identify, recommend, and track performance metrics and develop system(s) for staff learning/sharing to ensure the adoption of guidelines and best practices.
10%     Volunteer Leadership Committee Coordination: In collaboration with the Vice President of Philanthropy and the Volunteer Leadership Committee of the National Board, develop the content and logistics for the quarterly Advisory Board Chairs calls. Serve as the liaison between the Volunteer Leadership Committee and field teams to share information and feedback, ensuring alignment between State Advisory Boards and the National Board.
10%     National Leadership Conference Planning: NLC brings together State Advisory Board members and other key volunteers from across the country to learn, share, and inspire. Lead the NLC planning team. . 
  • Minimum of 3 years working in a non-profit or higher education setting
  • Knowledge of and experience with non-profit volunteers and boards
  • Experience researching, compiling data, and analyzing key findings
  • Experience planning and organizing meetings and events
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and multi-task with excellent attention to detail and deadlines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft 365 suite
  • Experience working in a Customer Relations Management database (CRM) or other complex database a plus
  • Ensures ethical compliance with fundraising best practices, as defined by the Association for Fundraising Professionals
  • Interest in and commitment to The Trust for Public Land’s mission
  • Willingness to work flexible hours when needed
  • Travel within defined geography when deemed safe per state and national guidelines

Compensation and Benefits:

This is a regular, full time position within The Trust for Public Land. We provide a comprehensive benefits package. The salary range is $60,000-80,000.
