We are a team of planners, economists, researchers, data scientists, and geospatial analysts and we are looking for a GIS Project Manager to join our team. We are open to this position being based in any TPL office, with a preference for Denver, CO.
The GIS Project Manager leads, manages and implements the delivery of GIS-based projects and initiatives related to climate, conservation economics and green infrastructure planning nationwide. This position works in partnership with TPL teams around the country to implement cutting-edge GIS methodologies, tools and frameworks, facilitate technical teams, identify resources and establish project objectives, timelines and milestones, with focused time and effort leading projects that support TPL’s commitment to improving climate outcomes.
Because the scope of The Trust for Public Land’s GIS work is broad, the Project Manager works on a wide variety of GIS-based analyses in a highly collaborative team environment. The Project Manager must be an effective presenter and communicator and highly skilled in the GIS field with extensive experience in all aspects of GIS project development, management and execution – including desktop analysis, tool and web-based development.
- Provide expertise in GIS analyses including advanced use of ESRI tools, knowledge of advanced spatial analysis and modeling techniques.
- Interpret and translate climate change and other natural resources research into GIS-based green infrastructure assessments.
- Provide expertise implementing climate and conservation analysis in a GIS platform including assessment of heat islands, water quality, active transportation, wildlife, storm water mitigation, economic impact, vulnerable assets and citizens who have been made vulnerable.
- Creatively use GIS to solve problems and provide information to TPL colleagues that benefits their work.
- Lead project management including project scoping, budget tracking, client management, technical management and stakeholder meeting facilitation for large, complex, multi-vendor, multi-stakeholder projects.
- Prepare GIS project plans and schedules to including coordinating resources, tasks and work assignments
- Act as technical translator to communicate complex technical/GIS topics to non-technical practitioners and stakeholders.
- Lead multi-discipline technical teams and ensure that projects meet partner/client outcomes and goals.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with partners/clients.
- Extensive knowledge of ESRI software (ArcGIS 10x, Model Builder, Spatial Analyst, Network Analyst, ArcGIS Online).
- Minimum five years of experience, including three years of supervisory/project management experience.
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to track complex activities and timelines and work under minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to work confidently with a wide range of internal and external audiences.
- Ability to translate technical information for non-technical audiences, specifically GIS and climate science.
- Excellent presentation skills, both written and oral.
- Expertise in image processing, vector and raster modeling techniques and a sound understanding of cartographic principles is a plus.
- Experience customizing ArcGIS using Python.
- Strong analytical and interpretation skills.
- Strong background in earth science, natural resource conservation, climate science and climate change issues, including an understanding of green infrastructure principles.
- Familiarity with data visualization techniques on the web.
- Knowledge of and ability to utilize GIS resources available to GIS professionals.
- Strong organization skills, including file documentation and system maintenance.
- Advanced degree in geography, geographical information systems, information technologies, environmental sciences or related field.
