Philanthropy Writer- East Division

Position Summary:
The Philanthropy Writer is responsible for supporting fundraising goals and activities in the 9-state East Division. Responsibilities include developing cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship pieces for individual and institutional donors and prospects, creating template materials representing key needs and opportunities, and writing proposals, reports, cases for support and other collateral and communications materials for donors and prospects. The Philanthropy Writer works with a team of relationship managers under the supervision of the Director of Philanthropy for Connecticut, with additional guidance provided by the East Division Director of Philanthropy.
80%     Assists with cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors, including foundations, corporations, and individuals.  Writes proposals, reports, and letters of inquiry, cases for support and other fundraising materials.  Creates template materials representing key areas of fundraising focus in East Division markets and representing national programs and initiatives. Supports the writing and communication needs of local fundraising campaigns and fundraising events as assigned. Creates customized cultivation and stewardship materials for donors and prospects. Prepares and personalizes gift acknowledgments for donors as directed.             Works closely with program staff, marketing and communications staff, relationship managers and others as needed.
20%     Serves as the liaison to marketing and communications on behalf the East Division philanthropy team to meet its collateral and communications needs, such as newsletters, event invitations and other event collateral, e-news and website updates, case statements and other gift opportunities, and other communications to donors and prospects. 
Experience, Education and Skills Required:
  1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  2. 3-5 years of experience in communications or fundraising field. 
  3. Experience with nonprofit organizations preferred.
  4. Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills and attention to detail.
  5. Substantial experience in writing persuasive communication materials, preferably grant proposals, letters, reports and other fundraising materials.
  6. Proven ability to present convincing and engaging arguments for support.
  7. Demonstrated experience and proficiency using fundraising database programs, MS Office programs, Page Layout and Digital Image
  8. Demonstrated ability to monitor and meet deadlines.
  9. Professional and friendly demeanor.
  10. Ability to use good judgment, take initiative, prioritize, and problem solve.
  11. Ability to function effectively as a member of a team, ensuring close coordination and integration with other staff members.
  12. Interest in philanthropy and commitment to The Trust for Public Land’s mission.
